Kelly obtained her Master of Counselling from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and her Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Studies with a major in Psychology from Swinburne University of Technology, also in Melbourne. She is a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and a member of the International Therapist Directory.

Kelly can speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and Malay.
